Pet Fostering Service Scotland is a Scottish registered Charity (SC015672) which has been helping pet owners in emergencies since 1985.
Why was Pet Fostering Service Scotland started?
For many elderly owners their pet provides companionship, fun and a sense of security as well as having positive mental and physical effects on their health. If however, through accident or illness, they are temporarily unable to care for their much loved pet and cannot arrange any alternative care, many worry more about their pet’s circumstances than their own.
PFSS was started to help in such circumstances. Volunteer foster carers provide temporary homes for pets until they are able to be reunited with their owners. This minimises the anxiety and stress for both owner and pet during the separation. PFSS helps to maintain an owner’s sense of involvement and, if possible, keeps them informed of their pet’s wellbeing. Most importantly we ensure that pets are reunited with their owners as soon as possible.
It became obvious that besides elderly owners of pets, other pet owners needed help and PFSS now aims to help pet owner who:
· is suffering from poor health
· has been made temporarily homeless
· is fleeing a domestic abuse home
Please note that fosterings are monitored on a monthly basis.
What we don’t do
We must stress that PFSS is for owners in emergencies only,who have no one able to care for their pet and cannot afford kennel or cattery fees. There are limited foster homes available.
We do not look after pets for holidays.
