Fostering with Pet Fostering Service Scotland
We are always in need of cat and dog foster carers, but do on occasion need foster carers willing to take on other species. You will provide temporary care for a domestic pet in your own home while the owner is unable to care for it, meeting its daily needs and ensuring it is returned to its owner as soon as possible.
You will ensure the foster pet is safe and secure, ensuring that all foster dogs are kept on leash and all cats are kept indoors. You will be given a pet ID tag to put your details on and this should be attached to the pet’s collar for the full fostering period. Owners provide pet food and your local volunteer Area Organiser is there as a support for you should there be any problems with your foster pet. Please do keep in mind that foster pets can take a couple of weeks to settle in. We try and keep them to their own routine to minimise stress.
Fostering is a big commitment and it can be hard to say goodbye but it makes it all worthwhile when you see the joy in both owner and pet when they are reunited. By minimising the disruption to the pet's daily routine we give the pet security, reducing anxiety and stress caused by separation. This in turn gives the owner freedom from worry about their pet.
