WHAT TYPE OF ANIMALS CAN BE
FOSTERED? WHO CAN USE THE PFSS? HOW DOES IT WORK? WHAT DOES IT COST? IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER |

The majority of our fostering involves cats, dogs and caged birds but, there have been offers from volunteers to care for more exotic pets. As long as we can provide suitable living arrangements your fostering request will be considered. |
| Last year 75% of our fosterings were DOGS, 20% were CATS and 5% were OTHERS |
|
| Priority is given to companion animals of elderly people, but other emergencies are given sympathetic consideration and treated on their own merits. | Owners
who 1. have to go into hospital 2. are going to have respite care 3. are in a crisis or emergency |
| C |
| How does it work? |
Normally an appeal for help will be made by the owner, or in an emergency a responsible relative or professional carer (such as a Doctor, Social Worker or Police Officer) contacts your regional organiser. |

| The organiser takes details of the animal to foster, the date and length of stay required. They then allocate the pet to a suitable available volunteer fosterer from the register. | |||
Two forms must be filled in and signed before the foster period starts. 1. Foster Request Form - so that the fostering arrangements are clearly understood. Any accompanying written details of the pet's daily routine, diet and any special needs are also helpful. 2. PFSS Authorisation Form - must be signed as without this form our fosterers cannot get a vet to treat your pet if needed. |
|||
The person requesting help is then asked to take responsibility for the local arrangements such as transport. |
|||
| C |
|
| We need you to either to provide or pay for all food while your pet is in our care. We also expect you to pay for any veterinary treatment it may require. Love and attention is free! |

|
| Everyone involved in the PFSS is a volunteer so Fund-Raising is always necessary to cover administration costs of running the service. |
|
|
When any pet needs an
alternative temporary home it is always better to look to relatives first
or a person the animal already knows and trusts. Available foster places are limited, so if you don't qualify, please make other arrangements and leave those spaces for someone who really needs them. |
