As we move into June and the start of summer, many of us look forward to brighter days, holidays, and spending more time with family and friends. For some people, however, this season can bring uncertainty and challenges that are difficult to face alone.

At PFSS, we work with pet owners across Scotland who are experiencing illness, homelessness, or domestic abuse. During these difficult periods, many owners find themselves unable to care for their beloved pets, often with little warning and no alternative arrangements available.

For pet owners, the worry is not just about their own circumstances. It is about the wellbeing of a companion who provides comfort, routine, and unconditional love.

Pets are Family

For many people, pets are an important part of the family. They offer companionship during difficult times, reduce feelings of loneliness, and provide a sense of purpose and routine.

When an owner faces a crisis, the thought of being separated from their pet can be overwhelming. Unfortunately, temporary accommodation often does not allow animals, and private boarding options can be expensive and out of reach.

Without support, some owners may feel they have no choice but to permanently give up a pet they love.

Providing a Lifeline

PFSS exists to ensure that this does not have to happen.

Through our network of volunteer foster carers, we provide temporary homes where pets can remain safe, cared for, and loved until they can be reunited with their owners.

Whether a pet stays with a foster carer for a few days, a few weeks, or several months, the goal remains the same: keeping pets and people together during times of crisis.

The Power of Volunteers

Every successful foster placement begins with an act of kindness.

Our volunteers come from communities across Scotland and play a vital role in supporting both pets and their owners. By opening their homes temporarily, they provide stability and reassurance at a time when it is needed most.

Many foster carers tell us that one of the most rewarding moments is seeing a pet reunited with its owner. Knowing they have helped preserve that special bond makes every walk, cuddle, and feeding time worthwhile.

How You Can Help

As demand for our service continues to grow, so does our need for support.

Whether you choose to become a foster carer, make a donation, or simply share our message with others, your support helps us continue providing care for pets across Scotland.

Small acts of kindness can have an extraordinary impact. Together, we can ensure that pets remain safe, families stay connected, and no one has to face a difficult time without support.
